Function and semiotics of font-
semiotics was the study of signs and symbols and their use or interpretation.The function of font is to visually communicate information that is needed .Different fonts and colours can however communicate different potential meanings to a text.Below i will be exploring this..Font
French script- This font has connotations of romance,elegance and luxury.
Chiller-
The colour of our font may also implies things about the genre of theme of our film opening- here are some colour interpretations..
Calibri- This
font has implications of mundane, boring and this font is very similar to the
one used on Facebook pages so this font will feature a lot in our main task
Stencil- This
font has a more angry connotation and may link to danger, warnings and may link to the army so it could be used in our main task but most likely not
Snap ITC- This
font is childish and may link to cartoons and less serious situations, so
we couldn't use this in our main task with the theme of thriller
Jokerman-This
font is also less serious and it may link to less serious situations and
writing as the name suggests so we also couldn't use this font with the theme of thriller
Playbill- This
font makes me think of the film cowboy wanted signs so it may imply danger but
at a different time in history so we will not use this font in our main task.
The colour of our font may also implies things about the genre of theme of our film opening- here are some colour interpretations..
Red- danger,love,passion (could link to blood or fire)
Pink- feminine,caring and calm
Yellow- happy,optimism,hope(could represent the sun)
Blue- cold,masculine,cleanliness (could represent water)
White-pure,innocence and purity(could link to heaven,winter or marriage)
Black-mystery,power,sadness(could link to death)
Green-fresh,lucky,growth
This film was made in 2003 and is about 10 strangers that get stranded at a motel and then get to know one another,then they release they are being killed off 1 by 1. The font colour used in this poster are red,black and grey. Due to the description of the plot and other general the viewer of the poster may assume the red to be associated with blood and danger. The black font may relate to the mystery of who the killer may be in the film like the black is like a mask or it may relate to a time of day when the people are killed.This poster gives the audience suggestions as to what the story is about. The fingers of the hand in the poster are made to look like the outlines of people.The palm of the hand also looks like a person who is screaming due to the change in colour around the palm. The font for this poster is closest to our stencil font above and the font is bold and is well structured so it almost looks like a warning sign that the audience might be used to seeing in ordinary life.
