Online Survey and Results

Online survey and results

We used the online survey website survey monkey to create a survey that we could distribute to people to ask about the audience of thrillers. We typed in our desired questions and selected the type of answer boxes we wanted. We then had to decide if we wanted to use a website, email, share on a social network or embed onto a website. We chose to use a website link then we went onto the Facebook and twitter pages of survey monkey and shared the link to get responses. We got 12 responses (23/02/14).Here are the questions we asked and our responses.

Q1- The majority of our responses came from women,10 of then to be exact so this does not fit our specific target audience of our thriller opening but should still help us look at the good and bad features of thrillers and the general audience of thrillers

Q2- This question asks how old are respondents are 7 of them were from the age of 11-20 which is part of our specific audience of over 15. 2 of our respondents are 21-30 and the other 3 respondents are 31-40.This might help us look at trends of good things within a thriller that different ages enjoy in a thriller film.

Q3-To the right are some of the responses for the best thriller films our respondents have seen and why they thought they were the best ,2 people did not answer this question and 1 person put "not sure".

Q4-This question asked if suspense was key to the success of a thriller film and all the respondents replied yes to this so we have to make sure that we have suspense in the start of our thriller opening.

Q5- In another post I have talked about the cross genres of thriller films, they are horror, crime and action. In this question we asked our respondents what sub genre should be most present in a thriller film.7 of the respondents said horror,5 said action and 2 said crime so in the whole plot of our film we should include the horror sub genre.
Q6- This question asks the respondent to rank the importance of a well known actors/actresses,a good plot, amazing special effects and well known directors.Green was the first and most important thing in a thriller,2nd most important thing was blue, orange was the 3rd most important thing and grey was the least important thing that the respondents thought made a thriller film successful.                                                                            1-11 people thought that a good plot was the most important thing but 1 person thought well known actors/actresses were the main thing that makes a thriller successful.
2- 5 people thought amazing special effects made a successful thriller film,4 thought well known actors/actresses were the success of a thriller film,2 said that well known directors/writers and producers were the reason for the success of thriller films and 1 said a good plot was the reason for the success. So the 2nd thing we should focus on are good editing and special effects.

3- The 3rd most important thing to the respondents were well known directors/producers and writers,5 respondents said this was important.4 then said well known actors/actresses were the next most important thing and finally the remaining 3 said amazing special effects were what they thought made a great thriller film.So next we should do our best for our thriller opening to be good directors/producers and writers to make our thriller opening more realistic.

4-Finally again 5 people believed that again a well known director/writer/producer,4 then said well known actors/actresses was the least important reason for the success of a thriller film then finally 3 people said special effects was the least important reason for the success of a thriller film.

Q7-This question asked whether the respondent was more likely to watch a thriller film made in America over someone else.7 people said that where the film was made would make no difference in if they would watch that film or not and 5 people said they were more likely to watch the film if it was made in america,no explanations were given to why but generally america is known to dominate the film industry.

Q8-This question asked what films people usually watched,to the left are some of the responses

Q9- This question asked how important props were in establishing a thriller genre.1 person said that props weren't important and the majority said that props were "very important",10 respondents said that props were at least "quite important" but 1 person skipped this question. This tells us that we must make sure props help establish the thriller genre.
Q10- This question asked what aspects of a thriller film would make a great film opening for you.The most common responses were good suspense,a good plot and good music. This means along with the other comments we should mainly focus on the good plot, suspense and music.
