NOW YOU SEE ME ANALYZING CHARACTER

Analyzing character in the opening scene of now you see me
(opening 4 minutes)

Henley Reeves-

Camera-There is also use of a low angle shot which gradually zooms out, this suggests that this female character has dominance over the over characters and suggests she's confident. 

Mise en Scene-The costume worn by the female magician suggests she is isn't a modest person and it suggests that she might be slutty and is an egocentric character.The use of heels and a sparkly outfit suggests she is a materialistic character.

Editing- There is a use of compressed time using fast cutting rates between Henley and the clock, this suggests the character is in danger and that she is an adventurous character because she put herself there,it may also suggest she is a lively fast paced character because the clock implies that every second of her life is important/significant.

Sound- Diegetic sound in the form of a scream is used at the very end of the clip which makes us believe that she is a vulnerable character in this situation.

Merritt McKinley

Camera- The 180 degree is used in the clip between the 2 characters which suggests that this character might be an angry or confrontational character.
Mise en scene-The use of the poster in the scene is used as a comparison between what the character used to look like and what he looks like now which suggest this character is fixated on the past.
Editing- There is jump cut from the end of the first magic trip to the poster, this creates a contrast for the audience between the younger character and the older bald character, this may suggest that Merritt is a wiser character because he has more experience in life.
Sound-Diegetic dialogue is used in the scene when the woman has found out about his husband cheating on her,the  says "pull out your wallet", this tells us that this character is a selfish character because he's not concerned with what happens to others and he may also be materialistic because things seem to be all about money for him.


J. Daniel Atlas-
Camera-The use of an arc shot around the skyscraper suggests that Daniel is a dominant character over the other people just like the skyscraper is more dominant compared to the other buildings.
Mise en scene-The costume worn by Daniel in the clip are dark clothes, this may suggest that this character is mysterious because we often mysterious and powerful items are associated with the colour black,for example a black hole. At the very start of the clip low key lighting is used which implies that the character is a mysterious character who may have secrets.
Editing- There is  a motivated cut at the start of the clip which is motivated by the dialogue between the 2 characters which shows that the male character as authoritative.

Sound- There is a use of non deigetic sound in the form of music,as the trick is unveiled the music the music becomes more intense and it gets louder which suggests that he is a arrogant and boastful character.     

Jack Wilder-

Camera-The use of an establishing shot in the clip which we assume is in a big city such as new York because he is on a tour boat, this might implies he is an ambitious character because he believes he can make it as a star in such a big place.

Mise en scene- The character Jack in situated in the center foreground of the shot, this suggests that he is a important and compelling character. 

Editing-The cutting rhythm in this clip gradually gets faster as the scene progresses and we find Jack has  taken a person wallet, this suggests he is a valiant and fearless character. 

Sound-Diegetic dialogue is also used when the man on the boat says "you said you would?" when taking about the $100 bet which suggests people believe that this character is unfaithful.
