Institution Research and Function of Institution in films

To see what we want our film company to be like,we decided to research film institutions and there functions in film making.I will be looking at small and big film institutions.

Film 4

Film 4- Film 4 was created in 1982 and is a British film company.They have created films such as four lions,The iron lady and The inbetweeners movie.Film 4 produces many of it's films Wuthering Heights and This is England and it does a lot of funding for other films such as The Inbetweeners movie.Film 4 also distributes it's films such as Marmaduke. Film 4's budget ranged from £300,000 to £114,000,000 and possibly higher for the iron lady.They range from different genres from drama,horror and thriller with few comedy and romance(for example,slumdog millionaire). The certification rating is usually a 12 or higher depending on the film.This company has many qualities that we feel we should have in our company such potentially lower budgets and Film 4 doesn't necessarily go for blockbusters all the time,they have some films for niche markets (such as A field in England) and they mostly focus on thriller,drama and horror films with some other films which we think our company should do also.

Pixar animations

Pixar animations was created in 1986 and is an american computer animation company who make films as well as short films such as for the birds. They have made films such as the toy story trilogy,the incredible and finding Nemo. This.This company does production of films,distribute and did special effects for a bugs life and cosmic voyage.The average budget for all pixar films is £139,000,000  and the budgets for all their films have increased as the years progressed so this is a lot more money than we can afford to spend on our film.They focus on family films which usually have U certification on there films so this would not be suitable for our company for many reasons such as it's the wrong genre,too low a certification for a thriller film because it may psychologically harm the watchers of our opening if it were a U rating and the genre of thriller would not fit into the norm of the company.Also there films are animated and are footage is going to use realism. 

Summit Entertainment

summit entertainment was created in 1991 and are an american film company who have made films such as Now you see me,the twilight trilogy and american pie.Summit entertainment produces,distributes and does films sales and foreign sales for many films including twisted,astro boy and once.There budget can go from $160,000(once) up to £110 million (mr and mrs Smith) and they deal with potential blockbuster and big scale films.The film was recently brought by lions gate for $412.5 million in 2012 but they continue to submit films with their name.They put into production thriller,romance,comedy,sci-fi and horror films and distribute a wide variety of different genre films as well.They were the production company for the extremely popular teen franchise Twilight. We could be like this company due to there versatile range of films with higher certification ratings than pixar which would be appropriate for our thriller film opening audience.
